KINGMAN - Kingman Regional Medical Center welcomes orthopedic surgeon Dr. J. Kent Ferrari to its medical staff. Ferrari will begin serving patients in Kingman on Monday.
As a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Ferrari is an expert in the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of bones and joints. He is especially skilled in treating sports injuries, with expertise in arthroscopic shoulder surgery for rotator cuff or other injuries and arthroscopic knee surgery. He is also highly skilled in the latest techniques for joint replacement or partial-joint replacement in shoulders, hips, or knees.
Additionally, he performs reconstructive ligament and cartilage surgery.
Ferrari has an extensive medical background and training. He attended medical school at the University of Calgary, Canada, and received residency training in family medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, Canada. For five years, he practiced family medicine in Canada and the United States, providing primary medical care to adults and children.
With a life-long interest in competitive sports, Ferrari served as a volunteer physician for a number of athletic events, including the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, Canada. He eventually decided to further his training in orthopedics and sports medicine and did a five-year residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
He then participated in three separate fellowships, receiving specialized fellowship training in "upper extremity reconstruction" at the University of Manitoba; "orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopy" at TRIA Orthopedic Center in Bloomington, Minn.; and "lower extremity reconstruction" at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
While doing his second fellowship at TRIA Orthopedic Center, he worked alongside team physicians for several professional sports teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Twins.
Most recently, Ferrari served as an orthopedic surgeon at the Center for Neurosciences, Orthopedics, and Spine in Dakota Dunes, S.D. He and his family will now reside in Kingman.
With his extensive training and experience in family medicine, sports medicine and orthopedic medicine, Ferrari says he brings a "unique perspective" to caring for his patients. He uses a conservative, patient-centered approach, stating "it's very important that my patients understand all their options."
Ferrari's office is located at Mohave Desert Orthopedics at the Medical Professional Center on the KRMC campus. For more information, call (928) 681-8681.
