Valle Vista misses Santo, Bill

Valle Vista is mourning the loss of two residents. Longtime Valle Vistan Santo Vartola recently passed away. Our condolences go out to his wife Elaine and his family.

Many of us are still in shock over the sudden death of Bill McIntosh in an automobile accident. Bill and his wife Caroe did so much for our community by doing karoke, putting on dinners and raising funds for various causes. Bill could always be found at the clubhouse on Men's Day and playing with the Patriots and the Bandits wearing his famous "Gilligan" hat. Bill will be missed by many of us and our condolences go out to his wife and family. A memorial service will be held in the near future.

Here is what is happening at the Valle Vista Library:

Summer Reading Game begins this month with registration under way. Register online at http://mohavecountylibrary.info/mohave/ (the library district home page). Then go to Valle Vista's home page under the community libraries tab. Once you are on the Valle Vista page, click on the SRG tab and you will be led to registration.

Be sure you are in the correct age group as we have Children (Make a Splash @ Your Library), Teen (Make Waves @ Your Library) and Adult programs. You will be able to log your reading online and there are some really good prizes for reading. Please register and begin logging your reading.

A course in painting with acrylics will be offered as part of the Summer Reading Game for adults. If you are interested in attending the class, please come sign up at the library as soon as possible because they need to arrange for supplies and meeting times.

Because of the special programs and events of Summer Reading Game, the library district will not be presenting youth or adult programs in May at the library.

Book Discussion is at noon Thursday. Cheryl has gathered several different novels by author Dorothy L. Sayers for us to read and discuss. Sayers books feature Lord Peter Wimsey, an English aristocrat who "detects" as a hobby. The novels paint an interesting picture of society during the 1920s and 30s, along with presenting interesting mysteries. Bring a brown bag lunch if you like and join in the discussion.

Computer Training is available at the library every Thursday in May. Call Donna Paulson at (928)692-5761 to make an appointment for computer help.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Book and Bake Sale in April. Don't forget there are always used books, audio books and movies for sale on the Friends' shelf at the back of the library.

Be sure to call a member of the events committee if you have items to donate to the community garage sale to be held on Saturday. There will also be a barbecue, and the pool will be opening that day.

Both my husband and I have had the need for a medical appointment, so we went to see Patti Stanton, the nurse practitioner here in Valle Vista. We were both pleased with our treatment and highly recommend her to everyone.
