Firefighters and paramedics from Golden Valley work to extricate the driver of a vehicle who was pinned between a semi truck and guardrail after the two vehicles collided on southbound Interstate 40 at milepost 38 just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The driver of the car, shown here covered by a plastic tarp to protect him from glass and metal shards, was transported by Care Flight to a Las Vegas hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was unhurt.
The two vehicles apparently collided at some point on the road and the car spun out of control before it was pinned. Traffic was slowed to a crawl for two hours as the accident was cleared.
Assistant Golden Valley Fire Chief Thomas O'Donohue said a truck driver who doubles as a volunteer firefighter saw the accident and immediately responded, crawling into the backseat and holding the driver's head steady to prevent further injury.
