Letter: Roller rink would help connect families

I am writing this letter in hopes to gain some public support to bring back a roller skating rink to Kingman. I grew up here, and when I was younger, I remember weekend birthday parties at the Roll-a-Rena.

It was so much fun. I don't know why it closed down, but now as a grown-up, I do not see many options for our youth here in Kingman. What I do see is more and more children getting into things that could lead to trouble. Why? Because they are bored.

I know that we have the skate park, but that mainly caters to skateboarders and bikes. I have heard about a rink that was a warehouse out by the airport when my parents were younger, and I am trying to find out who owns this and exactly where it is located.

I am a part of an up and coming roller derby league, which is starting up here in Kingman, the Route 66 Derby Chix. We are very interested in finding this information out and getting the ball rolling on getting something family oriented back to Kingman. We need to keep our part of Route 66 exciting. Not only is rollerskating fun for all ages, but opening a rink would give kids and parents alike a great opportunity to re-connect and do something fun together. I think that is important!
