Letter: Please slow down in parking lots

For quite some time, I have been wondering what on earth is going on with people and their driving habits. Stop signs don't mean anything. Speed limits don't mean anything. What really concerns me is that so many people use parking lots for racetracks. People really fly through parking lots. Then people wonder why stores put speed bumps in their parking lots. It is because people don't have enough sense to slow down.

There are a lot of people who have their kids with them. When people are putting their goods in the car, kids can dart in front of a car without looking. A few weeks ago my wife and I were walking from our car at the Tropicana. A car sped by, I would say at 20 miles an hour. This guy wasn't thinking at all. I mentioned this to a security guard that they needed to put in speed bumps. He told me that he has mentioned it to management. He also told me that he has almost been hit by speeding drivers many times.

A few years ago, when I lived in Riverside, Calif., I was standing in a checkout line at a supermarket when all of a sudden I heard a crash. A lady around 75 was pushing her cart full of groceries to her car when a person who was going too fast hit her cart. Her groceries flew everywhere. They called an ambulance for her. That poor woman could have been killed.

People need to slow down in parking lots, and pay attention.
