Helen and Carroll Aust were honored on the occasion of their 70th Wedding Anniversary in a celebration with friends and family on Oct. 24 at The Homestead in Montrose, Colo. Helen is the former Helen Knapp of Mt. Pleasant, Wash. She married Carroll of Vancouver, Wash., on Oct. 26, 1940.
Carroll worked in the CCC, served in the Navy Seabees during World War II and worked as an equipment operator and an electrician for Bonneville Power in Oregon and Washington until he retired in December 1972. Helen was a homemaker and raised three children.
The Austs have one son, David Aust (Kathy) of Montrose, and two daughters, Diana Hatch (John) of Daly City, Calif., and Debra Campusano (John) of San Rafael, Calif. They have eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
After retirement, they made their home in Vancouver, Wash., where they lived for 30 years. They lived in Arizona for a few years before moving to their current home in Montrose in December 2007. Helen and Carroll enjoyed many years traveling in their RV during the winter months. They cherish their many friends including those from The Sons of Norway Lodge in Vancouver, where they continue to be members. They are also members of Zion Lutheran Church in Montrose.
