Josephine Russell Deal, who lived in Kingman the past 20 years, transitioned to her next phase of eternal life on Sunday, June 12, 2011. "Jo" was born in Kansas City, Kan., Feb. 19, 1931. Jo was one of four children by William Russell Deal and Cleo Belle (Butterworth) Deal. Jo was the last surviving of the Deal siblings. The others were: eldest Florence Deal, James Deal, and a younger brother William (Dick). Jo is survived by many nieces and nephews across the country who greatly miss her.

Jo was a lifelong civil servant. At one point in her life she lived in Paris and later Belgium, working for SHAPE. (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe). She retired from the Defense Mapping Agency, Combat Support Center in the Project Management Division. Jo held a bachelors and master's degree.

She was known for her love of animals, opera music and her keen sense of humor. Jo's nieces and nephews fondly remember her arriving at Christmas time laden with gifts wrapped in gold paper.

Jo had been active in Mohave County with animal charities, Unity of Kingman, Friends of the Library and the Women's Democratic Party.
