Bighorns relocated

KINGMAN - The Arizona Game & Fish Department recently completed a supplemental desert bighorn sheep transplant in the southern end of Unit 16A.

According to Brian Wakeling, the game branch chief for the department, working with the Navajo Nation, 20 sheep - 15 ewes and five rams - were captured in southwest Utah and brought to Peeples Canyon in Unit 16A.

Wakeling noted there is "robust" population of mountain lions in this area, and the goal is to minimize the influence of predation.

Currently, there is a small population of sheep in the area.
