American Legion Post 14: Time is running out to get your tickets for the New Year's Day Champagne Brunch. Get tickets in advance; we will not be selling them at the door. It's also time to renew your membership for 2012 if you haven't already done so. If your card still says 2011 after Dec. 31, you will not be a member in good standing and you won't be served in any Post clubroom. Our kitchen fund is doing well, with a great big "thank you" to everyone who has pitched in whatever they can. However, we have a way to go yet, so whether you need a tax deduction for 2011 or 2012, please consider a donation soon. Post 14 is on the corner of Third and Oak, and our phone number is 753-3555. Our regular hours are noon to 6 p.m.

Belles of St. Mary's: It's over, it's done, it's finished, the hustle, the bustle, the hurry-upness. Now we have time to hear the snowflakes settle, watch the curling smoke-dances and actually hear the children's laughter and joy. As we clear away the empty boxes, the tissue and ribbons, let's all together as one worldwide (okay, maybe citywide) family make a sincere and honest pledge to smile more, help more and pray more. We say goodbye to the year 2011 with this truism: What you are is God's gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to God. Happy and Healthy New Year!
