Letter: Keep DUI punishments intact

A few days ago I heard on the news that some of our lawmakers want to lower the time that a convicted drunk driver has to have one of those breath analyzers in his car from one year down to six months. How stupid!

Today I went out and picked up aluminum cans. I picked up 38 cans, 27 of them were beer cans. That is not to mention how many beer bottles I saw. That means that a lot of people are drinking and driving. Then our elected officials want to lower that penalty. If anything, they should double it. I wonder if some of our elected officials have enough sense to come in out of the rain.

As far as I am concerned, the drunken driver laws should be made stiffer. Those stupid drivers who think drinking and driving is OK should be hit with a good hefty fine and serve a lot of jail time. When those people get caught, I have no sympathy for them. The ones I feel sorry for are their family, especially their kids. I hope the law doesn't get changed.
