McCord hitting leadoff for Miners

KINGMAN - Will McCord, a 2007 graduate of Kingman High, has earned the leadoff spot for the Missouri S&T Miners baseball team, a NCAA Division II school in Rolla, Mo., that plays in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Missouri S&T (2-0) opened the season with a two-game sweep of Upper Iowa.

McCord went 1-2 in the first game, a 4-2 win. McCord, playing right field, has a 1.000 fielding percentage to date.

Chavez team leader for Gauchos

KINGMAN - Tara Chavez is proving herself worthy to the Glendale Community College Gauchos. Chavez, who graduated Kingman High in 2009, leads the team with a .517 on-base percentage over 26 at-bats and has drawn seven walks. She leads with two stolen bases.

Chavez is third on GCC (3-6) with a .368 batting average, tied for third with four RBIs and is tied for second with four runs scored.
