ARIZONA - The Arizona Independent Redistrict Commission held its first meeting Thursday afternoon. The commission will redraw the state's Congressional and Legislative districts according to population totals from the 2010 census.
The commission is made up of five members, two Democrats and two Republicans chosen by the Legislature and an Independent chosen by the commission. The four party members of the commission interviewed candidates for the last position on Thursday. This is the second time the IRC has been formed since Proposition 106 created it in 2000. Voters approved the amendment to Arizona's constitution to create the commission. Previously the districts were redrawn by the Legislature.
