Marian Ivy Simmons, born Feb. 5, 1924, in Australia, lived a full life until her passing on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.
As a proud Australian, she spent her first 22 years enjoying the "Aussie" life, especially the beauty of the Coral Sea. She arrived in the United States in 1946 as a WWII "war bride" after marrying an American serviceman, James Simmons. She spent the next 17 years in Wisconsin where she began her new life. The family moved to Arizona in 1963, where she was employed in the secretarial field; the last 15 years of which, she served as the secretary to the Board of Governors for Pima Community College in Tucson.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband as well as her sister and two brothers. She is survived by four children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Marian Simmons was the cornerstone of her family. Her selflessness, wisdom and humor will endure through the memories of the people she touched.
