A collision on eastbound Interstate 40 at milepost 63 between an empty tanker truck and a pickup truck hauling paint halted traffic for approximately four hours in both directions Friday afternoon, according to Firefighter Ron Hood of the Pinion Pine Fire Department. A 1½-acre fire broke out in the median. The pickup was a total loss, and the front of the tanker was involved as well. No injuries were reported. Pinion Pine responded with a structure engine and brush truck. After the fire, three personnel and the engine were assigned to the Monument fire in Sierra Vista. Pinion's remaining personnel returned Friday from the Wallow fire in eastern Arizona.
