Belles of St. Mary's: Okay ladies, gather up your skirts and tighten your belts - two events upcoming this week: At 8 a.m. Wednesday, we come together for the distribution of ashes. Catholics worldwide will step into churches to be marked on the forehead with ashes - to remind us that from ashes we came and to ashes we will return. Immediately after this, Belles are asked to report for K.P. duty at the parish center. We have a deadline to meet - our delicious potato soup must be ready for ladling by noon to our faithful patrons from the city and county offices and all others who have heard of our famous annual event. All who come to help prepare, serve and eat have always had an uproarious time! Second on our agenda, we must turn out for the 2nd Annual "Nun Run," dedicated to benefit the "Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration." All runners, limpers and shufflers are to convene at 8 a.m. at St. Mary's Parish Center. Questions - contact Laura at (928) 530-1544. This happens Saturday, March 12. Once again, the Belles banded together to serve the family and friends of our own beloved Deacon Bill Del Monaco, recently deceased. The Knights of Columbus marched as an honor guard and opened their hall for the funeral reception. Of particular mention, I wish to note the following: During the funeral Mass, as we all stood to recite the "Our Father," a small child, perhaps a great-grandchild, folded her tiny hands in prayer and then studied the rest of the congregation to see that they also honored our God. She did so with no prompting from her parents. Also, at the distribution of Communion, the majority of the Del Monaco descendants all came forward to partake of this most holy Eucharistic rite. There can be no greater tribute to our Lord - this special man has given us families that will stay together because they pray together.
