KINGMAN - A pilot assigned to the Kingman Air Rescue unit was killed in a head-on collision on his way to work Tuesday night.
Matthew Uhl, 46, was northbound on U.S. 93 around 8:40 p.m. when his Department of Public Safety vehicle was struck by a Ford Explorer that was reportedly trying to pass other vehicles in the southbound lanes around milepost 188 north of Wikieup.
Uhl was pronounced dead at the scene, as were the driver of the Explorer and a passenger. DPS Spokesman Bart Graves said there were no signs of impairment in either driver.
Uhl lived in Chandler and commuted to Kingman. He's been with DPS since 2006 and began flying the air rescue helicopter in 2009. He is survived by his wife and four children.
