In February, Cerbat Garden Club volunteers visited 5th-grade classes in KUSD, KAOL, ECA, and Yucca school districts to promote the annual Arbor Day poster contest. More than 350 students submitted posters, with participation from all 27 classes in Kingman area schools. Each student participant received a tree sapling to take home, plant, nurture, and grow.

On March 31, proclaimed "Arbor Day in Kingman" by Mayor John Salem, awards were presented to student poster winners and top teachers, and two trees were planted on the campus of Manzanita Elementary School. None of these events would have been possible without generous donations from area businesses and individuals.

Cerbat Garden Club thanks the following corporate/business sponsors who provided funding for the saplings, trees, and student awards: Absolute Smiles/Dr. Ted Kimball; A2Z Roofing/Scott Lander; Arthur's Sales and Service/Wes Short; Dora's Beale Street Deli/Kurt and Dora Manley; Frontier Communications; Kingman Animal Hospital/Dr. Erika Koenig; Cornerstone Podiatry/Dr. Jason Allen; Mohave Surgical Specialists/Dr. James Gonzales; Cardiovascular Services/Dr. Saadeh Saadeh; Riata Dental/Dr. Barry Uldrikson.

A big thank you to the other businesses that provided coupons, vouchers, and refreshments for the 125 people who attended the Arbor Day Celebration. They are: Desert de Oro Foods/Taco Bell; McKee Foods; Basha's; Kingman Home Depot; Mandarin Orchid House; and Siren's Café. Cerbat GC also is very grateful to David Tribbett of Desert Sage Nursery for providing 350 saplings and two Crimson Spire oaks at wholesale cost. Special thanks to Nina Brackett, UA Mohave County Extension Office School Gardening Director and Kingman area Master Gardeners.

We appreciate the City Council members, Clean City Commissioners, Mayor Salem, Supt. Roger Jacks, school principals and teachers, and all the families of student winners who attended the celebration. Thank you Ernie Tapia, Manzanita lead custodian, for all your extra work. And, thanks to the Kingman Daily Miner for providing publicity and to J.C. Amberlyn for taking photos at the celebration.

Once again, Kingman proves to be a supportive, generous, and open-hearted community. Thanks to everyone who made this annual event such a success!
