Kids have one last chance to get down and dirty before the school year starts.

Kingman Parks and Recreation Department is holding its 34th Annual Mighty Mud Mania at 10 a.m. Thursday at Firefighter's Park, 2201 Detroit Ave.

Recreation Superintendent Yavonne Cossio said the weather forecast for Thursday looks good and there are no plans to cancel the event.

The annual end of the summer mud obstacle course is open to everyone ages 4 and up. Boys and girls compete separately and run the slippery course. The fastest runner out of the morass in each age group gets a Mud Mania T-shirt and trophy. The runner-up gets a T-shirt.

There are eight age groups: 4 to 5 years old, 6 to 7 years old, 8 to 9 years old, 10 to 11 years old, 12 to 14 years old, 15 to 17 years old, 18 to 34 and the Senior division - 35 years and up.

Toddlers under the age of 4 will also have a chance to get in on the grubby fun with this year's new toddler mud pool.

Parents don't have to worry about muddy footprints on the kitchen floor. Parks and Rec is providing a shower area for kids to slough off some of the muck before they hop in the car.

The Optimist Club of Kingman is also providing concessions during the event. Money from the concession stand supports the Youth Mighty Mite Basketball program.
