Shotgun goes off in truck

A woman getting gasoline suffered minor injuries after being struck by pellets from a shotgun that accidentally went off in the truck at the pump next to her.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. at a gas station in the 5000 block of West Highway 68 in Golden Valley. Mohave County Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter said the unidentified man told deputies that he went to place his shotgun in the gun rack above his seat when it accidentally went off.

The pellets blew a hole through the truck and ricocheted off the vehicle and nearby pumps. Carter said the woman was struck by one of the fragments after it bounced off of something else and characterized her injuries as minor.

She was treated at the scene by medical personnel.

The owner of the shotgun was not cited in the incident.
