Texting while driving bills move through legislature

ARIZONA - Two bills are moving through the Arizona House of Representatives that would ban text messaging while driving.

According to AAA, 35 states and the District of Columbia have laws that address text messaging by motorists. Other than the city of Phoenix, there are no laws that restrict motorists from texting while driving in Arizona.

In 2011, Sen. Al Melvin (R) introduced a similar bill. The legislation cleared the Arizona Senate but stalled in the House of Representatives.
