Belles of St. Mary's: Church Picnic - this weekend - Saturday. We want/need you! Our "troops" have donated hours of energy and creativeness to give you all a wonderful mountain-memorable event. We say "troops" cuz our guys are as actively engaged as our gals (Belles). We are certain you all noticed something special in the air on Wednesday, July 4th's celebration. Prior to the evening's traditional fireworks spectacular extravaganza - early that morning, something magical and romantic happened. Some background, first: the United States bishops requested all our parish priests to lead us across the entire nation with a "Ringing of the Bells"! Starting at our nation's capital, D.C., the bells began ringing at noon, their time. Our little historic church bell, perched atop our 106-year-old church, rang out joyously and proudly at 9 a.m. A group of Mass attendees stepped up to take their turn at this honored event, including Fr. Mateo! We rang out for our cherished freedoms not for the 10 minutes requested, but for more than 15 minutes, thanks to the strong arms of our own retired truck driver, Jim V. We stand proud; we stand free; we thank our God for America!
