Douglas Lester Dusharm, 62, of Kingman succumbed to an infection and passed away at University Medical Center in Tucson on Thursday, June 7, 2012. He was born Aug. 8, 1949, in Gouverneur, N.Y.
Doug was a retired real estate agent and mountain biking enthusiast who was instrumental in designing, constructing and maintaining various mountain biking trails in the Kingman area. He was among 44 individuals nationwide recently nominated for the Bureau of Land Management's "Volunteer of the Year" award.
He received a heart transplant on Jan. 29 and enjoyed every day with his new heart.
He is survived by his mother, Elaine Dusharm, of Kingman; his siblings, Donna Russell, Duane Dusharm, and Donita McIntosh, all of New York state; his children, Tammy Dusharm of Kingman, Peter Dusharm of Gilbert, Rhonda Levenda of Mesa, Celeste Serbin of Phoenix, and Felicia Dusharm of Surprise; and seven grandchildren. Doug will be missed by all of his friends and family who loved him dearly.
A private memorial on his favorite biking trail will be arranged at a date and time to be determined. Unity for Life is a charitable organization that assists transplant patients with the financial burdens they face before, during and after a heart or lung transplant.
