KINGMAN - An officer received minor injuries when he was reportedly assaulted with a cane during an arrest last week.

Kingman Police Capt. Rusty Cooper said officers responded to the 100 block of Maple Street around 1:40 p.m. Friday for a report of domestic disturbance. A 56-year-old woman called police after her 48-year-old live-in boyfriend, Kenneth Kiner, had threatened her and then locked her out of the house.

Cooper said officers had the woman's permission to enter the home, although Kiner would not let them inside. Kiner also made statements threatening harm to himself and others, which added to the urgency of the situation, Cooper added.

Police eventually entered the home through a window, at which point Kiner reportedly attacked one of the officers with a cane he uses for medical reasons. The cane struck the officer once in the face before Kiner was subdued. The officer suffered minor injuries.

Kiner was booked into the Mohave County Jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault on a police officer and a misdemeanor charge of threatening/domestic violence.
