Kingman Letter: Those were the days

I can remember elections back to 1956. I have never seen a more negative election than this past one. In 1956, the campaign buttons read "I Like Ike," not "Stevenson Sucks" as they would have in this year's election.

One of three great pleasures I have is debating politics with my son, John Jr. He is a "Liberal Leftist Jerk" and I am "A Rightwing Pig"; you can imagine the conversations. I respect him and his opinion as he does me and my views. When our politicians learn to do the same with their opponents, then maybe we could get back to the "I Like Ike" days and, more importantly, positive campaigns.

I know I am dreaming, but there is no harm in a silly old man dreaming.
