Kingman Area School Retirees' Association: KASRA held its annual Ditch Day brunch/membership drive on Sept. 18 at the beautiful Hidden Pines Bed and Breakfast, which is owned by member Tommie Upton. It was a gorgeous day with lots of delicious pot-luck style dishes to enjoy in an awe-inspiring setting. This year's theme was Ride the Rails and Pick Up New Members, to correspond with the Andy Devine Days theme, Workin' on the Railroad. A short meeting was held and a slate of potential officers presented for election at our next gathering. State Association President Steve Poe joined us and gave a talk about what officers and committees at the state association level do in terms of lobbying for school retiree issues in the Arizona Legislature. A drawing was held for a beautiful sterling silver cuff bracelet and matching earrings, with proceeds going toward our scholarship/mini-grant fund. The winner was Dave Cunningham. Quite a few potential new members attended and were warmly welcomed. Members of KASRA and potential new members posed for a photo after enjoying lunch and a short meeting at Hidden Pines B&B. They are, from left to right, back row: Jean Graham, Linda Kocher, Sandy Hampson, Steve Kocher, Aida Zlomke, Sandie Womack, Lyndal Byram, Dorian Trahan, Barb Fuller, Steve Poe, Mary Lee Hall, Rebecca Faris, Jan Cunningham and Duane Nelson; and front row: MaryAnn Smith, Barb Sorenson, Violet Tribbett, Paul Tribbett, Sue Snell, Sandi Minkler, Dave Cunningham and Tommie Upton. Our next meeting will take place Oct. 23 at the Elks Lodge, 900 Gates Ave.
