Letter of thanks: Cerbat Garden Club

Cerbat Garden Club would like to thank all those who made the 2013 Arbor Day Program such a success.

Thank you to the 5th grade teachers who invited Cerbat GC volunteers into their classes and encouraged students to participate in the Arbor Day Poster Contest, "Trees Are Terrific ... In All Shapes and Sizes!" Thank you to the 338 students who submitted a poster for the contest and to their parents for allowing them to participate. Each of those 338 students received a Hackberry tree sapling of their own to take home and plant.

Thanks to Dave Tribbett of Desert Sage Nursery for providing his expertise and time, and for ordering the saplings. Thank you to the eleven local businesses and individuals who provided funding for the purchase of the saplings and for the cash awards to 1st place poster winners: National Bank of Arizona, Deana Nelson-State Farm Insurance, Chris Wagner - The Gun Shop, Libby Mathiesen - Cerbat Investment Services, Dr. Saadeh A. Saadeh, Dr. James Gonzales, Dr. James Allen - Cornerstone Podiatry, Dr. Ted Kimball - Absolute Smiles Dentistry, Dora Manley - Dora's Beale St. Deli, Wes Short - Arthur's Sales & Service, and the anonymous donor of $200.

Thank you to Kingman Daily Miner for donating plastic sleeves for the saplings and great media coverage. Thanks to Cascades Tissue Group for donating paper toweling for wrapping the sapling roots. We gratefully acknowledge the assistance at the Community Celebration and Tree-Planting in Cecil Davis Park on March 23, provided by Clean City Commission, Mayor Salem and Vice-Mayor Watson, Kingman Parks and Recreation - Guy Reynolds, Kingman Master Gardeners, and Nina Brackett, School Gardening Director at the University of Arizona Mohave County Extension Office. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who took part in this year's event.

We look forward to working with all these fine people and next year's 5th graders at Arbor Day 2014.
