Kristi Grassers' intermediate class put on a "Helping Paws and Claws" pet drive in March at Kingman Academy of Learning Intermediate School.

Christina Casey of the school's job crew came up with the idea and Grassers' class came up with the name and did the fundraising. They pet food, toys and other items to donate to Mutt Matchers and Friends, a local no-kill dog adoption center.

Mutt Matcher president Judy Torgerson and secretary Karen Lynne came to Grassers' class to accept the donations. Torgerson brought her dog, Haley, a former rescue, and talked to the kids about dog care and safety tips.

The class plans to do more fundraising. For more information on Mutt Matchers, go to www.muttmatchers.org. Above, Judy Torgerson, top left, and Haley meet some Grassers' students.
