Edythe Virginia Attebery-Estep

Edythe Virginia Attebery-Estep, 87, of Mesa, was born on Nov. 27, 1925, in Silver City, N.M., to Pearl (Anderson) Attebery and Harrel Christie Attebery. On Wednesday, July 3, 2013, while being cared for at the Hospice of the Valley Dobson Home, she passed peacefully into heaven. Her family is very grateful for the kind, loving care she received at the hospice home during the last few days of her life.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald, Mesa. Following the service, she was interred at Mesa City Cemetery.

Edythe lived in Kingman during her youth, attending Mohave County Union High School and graduating from the El Paso Technical Institute, El Paso, Texas. She worked at Central Commercial as a secretary. She fell in love with and married a handsome young soldier named Ernest Cowling and to this union came three lovely daughters: Virginia "Ginger" (David) Lassiter of Highland, Calif., Sharon "Sheri" (Robert) Scattergood of Chandler, Ariz., and Kathy (John) McKinney of Argyle, Texas.

Edythe relocated to Mesa in 1961 and was employed by the city of Mesa Water Department until she retired.

She is survived by her daughters, Ginger, Sheri and Kathy; her grandchildren, John, Karla, Ryan and David Jr.; her siblings, Jim, Yvonne, June and Sylver; and nine great-grandchildren.

We are very proud of Edythe and hold her in high esteem. We say that she was the best of us all. We will miss her terribly. She will live in our hearts as long as we have our memories.
