Lee Williams dealing with growing pains

KINGMAN - A team with only freshmen and sophomores with a season of freshmen-level competition under its belt is sure to have growing pains, and the Lee Williams High boys basketball squad is no exception to the rule.

Lee Williams (0-5) found the going tough at the Red Rock Scorpion Invitational in Sedona Thursday and Friday.

The Volunteers opened the tournament with a loss Thursday to Red Rock, 52-41. Nate Cottrell led Lee Williams with 12 points. Giancarlo Narvarte scored eight, Landon Kramer had seven, and Braxton Burgess added six. Chaise Shropshire, Alek Dunton, Kenyon Rowley, and Kaleb Smith each contributed two.

Lee Williams next played Payson and fell, 73-35. Narvarte led with 13, and Burgess scored 12.

"We did some things better in the first game," said LWHS coach Ray Smith. "We did not play well at all in the second."

Lee Williams lost to Blue Ridge Friday, 60-22, and to Lake Havasu, 26-17. No further information was available at deadline. The Volunteers host Kingman Academy in their next regular-season game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
