KINGMAN - Diamond Bar Road, the main route to Grand Canyon West and the Skywalk, is closed to all tourism traffic.
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Nigel Turner, the owner of Grand Canyon Ranch, has closed Diamond Bar Road to all tourism traffic, including tour buses.
"He's letting people that work there through, but he's not letting any tourists or tour buses through," said MCSO Spokeswoman Trish Carter.
Turner closed the road around noon and said he would reopen it once the Hualapai Tribe's contractor, Fann Construction, has removed their equipment from his property.
The closure ups the ante in a feud between Turner and the Hualapai tribe, which runs the Skywalk. The conflict over the road across Turner's property has been going on for years, but Turner recently started imposing a toll - $20 per adult, $10 per child and $500 for tour buses - on people crossing his property.
He said the tribe has not followed through on agreements governing the road, and he complains that visitors litter and damage his property. A tribal spokesman said Turner is hurting tourism in Mohave County.
