Law enforcement will be on the river this weekend

KINGMAN - Multiple law enforcement agencies will be on the Colorado River System this weekend and once again they'll be on the lookout for impaired boaters.

All boaters passing through the checkpoints will be subject to a "systematic safety inspection" and operators will be checked for alcohol or drug impairment, according to the Arizona Game and Fish Department in Kingman.

To avoid violations of boating safety requirements, the department encourages boaters to take a boating education class. For information, log on to the department's website at www.azgfd.gov.

Joining Game and Fish will be the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, the Lake Havasu Police Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The OUI checkpoints will occur on the Colorado River System throughout the boating season.
