Obituary: Harriet Pierce

Harriet Elizabeth (Spencer) Pierce, 87, of Kingman, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.

Harriet was a strong, supportive and loving woman who possessed an irrepressible charm and was loved dearly by her family and friends for her loving heart and generosity.

Harriet was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Kansas to Harry R. and Rose (Merriman) Spencer.

She attended Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colo., and had been a teacher before devoting her life to Merlin Pierce on Dec. 20, 1952.

She moved to California in 1955 and moved to Golden Valley, then Kingman, in 1976, all while she raised six children and worked alongside Merlin at Merlin Auto Center in Kingman.

Harriet is survived by her husband, Merlin, of Kingman; three sons, Merlin K. Pierce of Kingman, James L. Pierce of Las Vegas, Nev., and Keith (Kathy) Pierce of Boise, Idaho; three daughters, Joan (Russ) Eisenhart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Susan (Jay) Mott of Chula Vista, Calif., and Linda Zutell of Suffolk, Va., and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Walter Spencer, George Spencer and James Spencer; and a sister, Ruth (Spencer) Martin.

A service in her memory will be held at 2 p.m. June 3 at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Sycamore Ave., Kingman.
