Narvarte clears 6 feet, 4 inches in high jump

Kingman hosts first home track meet today

KINGMAN - Lee Williams High's Giancarlo Narvarte cleared the bar at 6 feet, 4 inches at the London Bridge Rotary Invitational track meet in Lake Havasu Saturday and, for the second time this season, has qualified in the high jump for the AIA Division III State Championship meet. Navarte's jump gave the Volunteers their only first-place finish at the event.

The Lee Williams boys team finished in 10th place out of 13 squads, and the Lady Volunteers ended tied for eighth with River Valley. Gila Ridge won both the boys and girls meets.

Anastasia Lynch threw a provisional qualifying distance of 95-11 in the discus for fourth place. The throw was nearly seven feet farther than her previous provisional mark. If not enough athletes hit the qualifying marks for state, the AIA then selects athletes from the provisional list.

Megan Barnes scored twice for the Lady Volunteers with a pair of fifth-place finishes. Barnes ran the 400 meters in 1 minute, 7.20 seconds, and the 800 in 2:45.64. Marli Lauck also came in fifth but in the triple jump. She soared 28-06.

Kingman High came in fourth as a team in the boys meet with 58 points, and the Lady Bulldogs were sixth with 49.

Jack Gilliam's shot put of 43-04.50 put him in the provisional rankings for Division II. His effort gave the Bulldogs a third-place score. Manuel Tadeo was just 3/10ths of a second shy from meeting the provisional standard in the 300 hurdles. Tadeo came in second at the meet in 42.74, needing 42.44 for the provisional.

Paulina Delgado ran a provisional time of 16.69 in the 100 hurdles to finish second in the event. Delgado's 47.5 in the 300 hurdles earned her first place and a provisional. Her time in that race was just 16/100ths of a second shy of qualifying.

Megan Gaul finished fifth in the high jump at 4-06, two inches short of a provisional. Delgado scored again in the long jump at 15-01.5, 1.5 inches shy of a provisional.

The first track meet of the season on home turf takes place at 3 p.m. today at Kingman High. The Bulldogs are hosting Lee Williams, Lake Havasu, River Valley, Laughlin and Goodyear Millennium.
