KINGMAN - The circumstances regarding Tuesday's public suicide on Beale Street have been clarified following further information provided by Kingman Police.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki said the man did not shoot himself to death prior to his car swerving into a vehicle carrying international tourists as reported in Tuesday's edition.

The 82-year-old from Prescott committed suicide with a semi-automatic pistol after he pulled his red pickup in front of a 10-passenger van towing a trailer. The resulting minor crash occurred while both vehicles were traveling west in the 1200 block of Beale Street at about 2:35 p.m.

Both vehicles pulled into the Budget Inn parking lot. Passengers in the van were uninjured, but told police they heard a single gunshot that came from the man's vehicle, said Sochocki.

Officers continue to search for the man's relatives.
