On the 19th of April, 2014, the good Lord and Savior Jesus Christ took Maria Elva up in his arms and took her home with him.
Elva was born in Mexico on Oct. 25, 1940, to Filiberto and Carmen Rascon. In 1976, she came to the United States and in July she married Don Mesa. They were married 37 years.
Shortly thereafter, Elva pledged her allegiance to our country and became a citizen. She was so very proud of this achievement.
She was a homemaker and devoted Nana to all her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and making trips to Southern California, especially Knott's Berry Farm.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gloria; and her brother Ramon.
She is survived by her husband, Don Mesa; sons, Daniel of Kingman, Adam Mesa of Las Vegas and Tony Bowler of Brigham City, Utah; daughters, Inez Booher of Chadwick, Mo., Roxanne Mesa of Phoenix and Kristen Bowler of Brigham City; and the loves of her life, 15 grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Jesus Riviera of Tucson, and her brother, Jose Hurtado of Paso Robles, Calif.
Mrs. Mesa was a longtime member of the Apostlic Church of Jesus Christ.
The viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday, April 28, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Sycamore Ave. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
