KINGMAN - Newly appointed Mohave County Sheriff Jim McCabe took the oath of office Friday morning in the Bullhead City chambers of Charles W. Gurtler Jr., the presiding judge of Mohave County Superior Court.

In attendance were McCabe's wife, Lisa, and several others.

McCabe said he looks forward to continue serving Mohave County and its citizens.

He replaces five-term Sheriff Tom Sheahan, who retired midterm effective last Friday, concluding a career in law enforcement that spanned more than four decades.

The Mohave County Board of Supervisors appointed McCabe, Sheahan's longtime chief deputy, to serve out the term, which ends in 2016.
