KINGMAN - Justina McKinley, center, blows out candles on her 100th birthday cake Monday at Desert Highlands Care Center with assistance from activities director Donna Simon, right, and clerk Cindy Thompson.

McKinley was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Mexico and came to the United States with her sister, who lives in California, Simon said.

She has no children, but has a nephew in New Jersey who came to visit her about two weeks ago.

"We're her family," Simon said.

McKinley moves herself around in her wheelchair and likes to listen to church music at Desert Highlands.

How did she make it to 100? "Take everything easy," McKinley said.

Desert Highlands administrator Vicki Phillips said it's the first time anyone celebrated their 100th birthday in the eight years she's been there.
