Kingman Letters: Sealing the rat hole

In his Jan. 26 letter to the editor, Richard Rufo complained about foreign aid and wondered why I have not done anything to stop wasteful foreign aid spending. He and several online commenters seemed completely unaware of my true position.

Let me set the record straight: I am the lead sponsor of the Foreign Aid Under Limitation and Transparency (FAULT) Act or H.R.1922.

This bill prohibits foreign aid to Pakistan, Egypt and other countries that do not support democratic values, embrace religious tolerance or refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist. I firmly believe we have to look after our own needs here in America and ratchet back the amount of money we send overseas, particularly if we get nothing in return or prop up a hostile regime. Support our friends? Of course. Incentivize some nations to democratize? Sure. Aid our enemies? No way.
