KINGMAN - The Kingman Sidewinders 16U softball team, comprised of players from all three local high schools, continued their summer tour last weekend by going 2-2 at the Best of the West tournament in Prescott.
"The girls played extremely well this tournament," said Sidewinder coach Craig Lee.
The Sidewinders opened the tournament Friday and lost to the Phoenix Blue Jays, 9-7. Natalie Borgens went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three runs batted in. Avery Lee and Dakota Park both singled and drove in a run.
Kingman followed up with an 11-1 win over the Prescott Lady Hawks on Saturday. Borgens pitched for the Sidewinders, throwing all five innings. She gave up four hits, three walks and an earned run. Borgens struck out three.
At the plate, Kylie Tomlinson shined by going 3-for-4. Parker went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
The Sidewinders made it back-to-back wins later on Saturday with a 9-7 victory over the Phoenix Athletics. Maya Perez and Catherine Angle each singled and doubled to lead Kingman.
Borgens again was the winner from the circle, pitching six innings and surrendering six hits, six walks and five earned runs. She struck out 10.
The tournament wrapped up Saturday for Kingman with an 8-0 loss to the Phoenix Lil Saints. Taylor Olivas and Borgens had singles for the Sidewinders.
"We ran into a great pitcher for the Lil Saints," Lee said. "We hit the ball, but we just couldn't find the holes in the defense."
Lee said he expects the Sidewinders to play tournaments in August and September in Las Vegas.
