Alvin D. Cierzan, 88, of Kingman passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Kingman Regional Medical Center after struggling with congestive heart failure.
Al was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Winona, Minn., son of Dominic and Frances Cierzan. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, achieved the rank of corporal and served three years, during which he participated in the battles of the Volcano Islands, the Marianas Islands, Guam and Iwo Jima.
Al was a resident of Kingman for more than 23 years and voluntarily served his community and those in need in countless ways. He was a longtime, active member of Grace Lutheran Church; an active lifetime member and Color Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars; an active lifetime member of the American Legion; and an active lifetime member of the Marine Corps League.
Al is survived by his wife, Claudia Cierzan, with whom there were no children, and his son, Terrance Cierzan, from a previous marriage.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Cynthia Cierzan.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2101 Harrison St. Cremation was under the direction of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
