KINGMAN - Lee Williams High's Brendon Allred and Kingman Academy's Sam Skankey advanced to the state cross country championship meets Saturday at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.

Allred earned his spot by taking 12th place last Friday in the Division III, Section I meet in Holbrook. Allred ran the course in 17 minutes, 27.41 seconds, barely more then a minute behind section champion Jeffery Miller of Page (16:28.76).

As a team, Lee Williams finished 12th in the 17-team event, missing the state meet. The Volunteers needed to place at least ninth to move on to Saturday's race.

Skankey placed 23rd in the D-IV, Section 1 race to represent the Tigers on Saturday. His time of 18:50.26 was more than two minutes off the pace set by Adriano Joe of Pinon (16:39.32).

The Tigers finished in ninth place as a team, four spots from qualifying for state.

GIRLS GOLF

Sammeli 28th for Kingman

KINGMAN - The Kingman High girls golf team finished in 12th place at the Girls Division II State Golf Championships on Monday and Tuesday at the Maryvale Golf Course in Phoenix. Nearly 60 teams began the season vying for the D-II state title.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 237-over-par 813 for 36 holes, which were 196 shots behind state champion Notre Dame Prep (617).

Mariah Sammeli led Kingman with a 180 to finish 28th in the state. Rebekah VanKirk (184) was four shots behind Sammeli and was followed by Samantha Hernandez (219) and Connie Peterson (230).
