Volunteers drop a spot, Tigers gain one

KINGMAN - After Week 7 of the high school football season, the Lee Williams Volunteers sit in the No. 9 position and the Kingman Academy Tigers are No. 15 in the Arizona Interscholastic Assocation's The Rankings powered by Maxpreps.com.

Lee Williams (5-2) was at No. 8 prior to Friday's 49-0 loss to No. 7 Glendale Joy Christian. The Eagles maintained their hold on No. 7.

Last week, the Academy Tigers were No. 16 but moved up after holding off Camp Verde on a last minute goal-line stand, 26-18. The Tigers moved up to No. 15.

The top-16 ranked teams move on to the state playoffs, which are scheduled to begin Nov. 8.

However, No. 25 Tuba City or No. 28 Red Mesa appear to be the frontrunners to win Section I, which is an automatic selection and would bump No. 16 out of the playoffs.

Lee Williams plays at Pinon (2-5) and Academy is at Greyhills (1-7) this week. Both games are at 7 p.m. Friday.
