The Kingman Area Literacy Program celebrated its first birthday and National Literacy Month in September by inviting graduates, current students and tutors to its first "Read-Fest" at Hastings. Participants read a brief passage of their choosing to the public so they could see their new literacy skills. Four developing readers showed up to read to a group of about 15 listeners composed of current students, tutors, a parent and a grandparent. The event demonstrated how reading enriches the lives of those who learn the crucial skill.
