Letter: No fan of insurance companies

Recently my wife and I were watching TV one evening, and a commercial came on. It was a law firm saying if you are in an accident call this number. We will make sure you are not taken advantage of. My wife commented that there are a lot of lawsuits. I said to her: if these greedy, thieving, crooked insurance companies would be willing to do what is right there wouldn't be half of the lawsuits there are.

The insurance companies have free rein. They can pay off a claim when they get good and ready. That is if they pay at all. Not very long ago, the federal government found fraud concerning the insurance companies with Hurricane Sandy. A lot of people were left high and dry. The insurance companies didn't have a problem taking these people's money. You find out how good the insurance company is when you have a claim. When it comes to premiums, they want their money by a certain date. When it comes to paying a claim, they drag their heels.

A few years ago, we sold one of our cars. I called the insurance company to cancel the insurance on it. About a week later, I got a letter from the insurance company with my new rate. I figured on that amount. When I got my renewal notice, it was $236 more than they said. I called and complained about it. I was told that they had a lot of underinsured and uninsured claims. Everyone pays. I didn't renew my policy with them.

Over the years I have been lied to, called a liar and been screwed over by insurance companies. When it comes to insurance companies, that is a sore subject with me.
