KINGMAN - A Kingman man was arrested on aggravated assault charges early Friday morning after he allegedly struck his neighbor with a hatchet.

Richard Wayne Macks, 54, reportedly told deputies the incident "was a misunderstanding," according to Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter.

Deputies responded to an assault with a hatchet call at a home in the 3800 block of Northfield Avenue at about 9 a.m.

The caller told deputies that her roommate, a 45-year-old man, was struck with a hatchet. The man told deputies he and Macks got into an argument and said Macks picked up a hatchet and struck him multiple times, and that he used his arm to block the blows.

Paramedics took the man to Kingman Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening wounds while deputies went to Macks' home.

Carter said deputies observed Macks was "extremely intoxicated" and had two small cuts on the side of his head.

"Macks advised that he was fine and it was a misunderstanding," said Carter.

He was taken into custody without incident and faces a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
