Taxes likely to be on GOP Forum agenda

KINGMAN - Mohave County Supervisors Hildy Angius and Jean Bishop and County Administrator Mike Hendrix are guest speakers at tonight's Mohave Republican Forum.

The meeting starts at 5:45 p.m. at Golden Corral, 3580 Stockton Hill Road. The room is available at 4:45 for dining prior to the meeting.

The guests will talk about their vision for Mohave County's future, water and air quality issues, road improvement and job growth.

They're also expected to discuss the Board of Supervisors' 3-2 vote Monday to raise property taxes from $1.86 to $2.01 for every $1,000 of assessed value in an effort to make up for a $3.8 million shortfall in the fiscal 2016 budget.

Angius joined Supervisor Steve Moss in voting against the property tax increase. The tentative budget proposal will come back to the board on July 20, with final approval set for Aug. 3.

The public is invited to attend the forum, and a $2 donation is requested to cover meeting costs. Contact Rita Basinger at ritabasinger@citlink.net or call (928) 692-4771.
