GOLDEN VALLEY - A man is in jail after he reportedly fired shots at his former girlfriend and her son Sunday in Golden Valley.
John Leonard Sanchez, 55, of Golden Valley, told Mohave County Sheriff's deputies he shot at the feet of the 50-year-old woman and 28-year-old man. Neither was injured.
Deputies responded to a home in the 3800 block of Bagdad Road regarding a shots fired call just after 12:20 p.m.
Sanchez had left the scene. The 28-year-old man told deputies Sanchez pulled up to the house, quickly exited his vehicle and began shooting.
Deputies later located Sanchez in the 3000 block of U.S. 93.
He allegedly dropped the .22-caliber pistol he was holding and ran up a mountainside for a few minutes before he surrendered.
Sanchez is a convicted felon and banned from possessing firearms. He faces felony charges of disorderly conduct with a weapon, prohibited possessor and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by domestic violence.
According to court records, Sanchez served time on three occasions beginning in 1996, when he was sentenced to 18 months for aggravated assault and taking the identity of another.
He served three more years beginning in 1998 for a dangerous drug violation and a 16-month term in 2004 for an attempted dangerous drug violation before he was released nearly nine years ago.
