Leo Tapia was born on Jan. 8, 1934, in San Jose, N.M. His family moved to Kingman in 1942.
He went to the seminary in Missouri in 1952. After a year, he returned to finish his high school education and graduated from Kingman High in 1955. He then went to college at Arizona State for a year.
He joined the Navy in 1956-1959. He returned to Kingman, where he lived the remainder of his life.
He married his beloved wife Joan in 1963. He enjoyed coaching the Kingman Youth Football League and women's fast-pitch. He continued to participate and support the city leagues for many years. He was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his brothers, Joe Salazar (Mary), Floyd Tapia (Jeanette) and Phillip Tapia (Roz); his daughter, Veronica (Reason); his two sons, Corey and Casey; granddaughter, Brianna (Cody); and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation and rosary will be held at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Sycamore Ave., from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 13. Rosary starts at 6 p.m. The mass will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14. A reception will follow at the Legion, 225 E. Oak St. Please bring a dish for the potluck.
