Muellers surge to the top of Kingman Bass Club tournament

Next competition will be at Windsor Beach

KINGMAN - The father/son team of Wally and Frankie Mueller put together a strong second day limit of bass to easily win the Kingman Bass Club's two-day tournament at Martinez Lake on the lower Colorado River.

Ten teams competed in the two-day event, which was held out of Fisher's Landing on sprawling Martinez Lake.

Teams found the fishing good on Day 1 of the tournament, with nine out of the 10 teams bringing in a limit of five bass to the scales.

Leading the tournament on Day 1 were Jim Guin and his partner, Ernie Melcher. That team had five bass that weighed 15.56 pounds, and included the second Big Fish of the tournament, a lunker that weighed 5.34 pounds.

In second place were Micah Jones and Luke Eggers, whose limit weighed 15.03 pounds.

Third place on Day 1 was Ray and Donnie Scroggins, who weighed in the Big Fish of the tournament, a lunker that weighed 5.64 pounds. The father/son team had 13 pounds.

On Day 2 of the tournament, teams found the angling much tougher.

Only three teams had a five-fish limit and one team in the tournament didn't weigh in a single fish.

Day 1 leaders Guin and Melcher only brought two bass to the scales. They finished with a two-day total of 17.52 pounds.

Jones and Eggers, who had been in second place at the start of Day 2, also caught just two bass, and finished the tournament with 17.91 pounds.

The father/son team of Greg and Adam Parker had a five-fish limit on Day 2 that weighed 9.27 pounds, and coupled with the 11.03 pounds they checked in on Day 1, they ended up in third place with a total of 20.3 pounds.

The father/son team of Dave Hilton II and Dave Hilton III were the model of consistency, bringing in a five-fish limit that weighed 11.22 pounds on Day 1, while their five fish limit on Day 2 weighed 12.75 pounds.

Their two day total was 23.97 pounds, good enough for second place.

The winners of the tournament were Wally Mueller and his son Frankie. The first day the team brought in a limit that weighed 11.34 pounds, but on Day 2 they brought in the best stringer of the day, a limit that weighed 15.24 pounds.

Their two-day total was 26.58 pounds.

The club's next tournament will be on Sunday out of Windsor Beach on Lake Havasu.

The pre-tournament meeting will be held at the Honda dealership on Stockton Hill Road at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
