KINGMAN - The Lee Williams boys track team scored eight points and finished 28th at the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division III State Championships Saturday at Mesa Community College.
All eight points for the Volunteers came from junior Giancarlo Narvarte. He won last year's high jump at 6 feet, 8 inches, but could only get to 6-4 Saturday and came in second place. Shadow Ridge's Michael Williams won the event at 6-8. Both had entered the state meet having cleared 6-10 in the regular season.
"Giancarlo's knee was really bothering him," said LWHS coach Joan Abraham. "But he did persevere."
Narvarte's teammate Shannon Townes finished tied for 18th at 5-8.
Brendon Allred fought through a weeklong illness and came in 22nd in the 3,200 meters Saturday with a time of 10 minutes, 23.72 seconds.
For the Lady Vols, Marli Lauck posted an 11th-place leap in the triple jump. Lauck went 31-02.25, finishing just half an inch out of the top 10.
Melisa Davis crashed into the third hurdle during the 300 hurdles and settled for 25th.
